Sometimes the best medicine is play.
Circus might not be the first thing that comes to mind for pain management, but it's an accessible, joyful form of movement for every body.
How it helps
Circus has grown into a practice anyone can participate in: there are aerial classes for cancer survivors, miming for Parkinson's patients, and adaptations in nearly every discipline. It teaches you to tell the difference between pain that's a warning and pain that's just part of trying something new, a practice in classifying pain as healthy or unhealthy, and choosing your response to it. Circus is intense, but it's rarely the pain people remember. It's the play. Play is a powerful pain reliever, no matter how much pain you're carrying.
