Your care team · Physical Therapist

Your body is stronger than the pain makes it feel.

Physical Therapists are movement specialists with doctoral-level training, and the good ones treat the whole person, not just the joint.

How it helps

A pain-informed PT can show you the same movement done two ways, painful in one position, pain-free in another, to help you see that your body is strong and safe, and that pain can change. Education about how pain actually works is a core part of good care, alongside a thorough understanding of the biological, psychological, and social factors at play.

How to find one

Ask a potential PT: Can they define pain clearly? Do they describe themselves as biopsychosocial rather than purely biomechanical? Do they collaborate with other professionals? Listen for language like empower, educate, and coach, and be wary of anyone who talks mainly about “fixing” you.
